Outpatient Imaging Affiliates, LLC announces imaging center joint venture with Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia

Nashville, TN-Outpatient Imaging Affiliates, LLC (“OIA”) today announced the planned November 2002 opening of a full-service outpatient diagnostic imaging and positron emission tomography (“PET”) center in Philadelphia. The Center is owned by a joint venture between OIA, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Jefferson University Physicians’ Radiology Department. The center will offer a full range of outpatient imaging procedures including MRI, CT, PET, ultrasound, mammography, X-ray, and bone densitometry services. OIA has been engaged to develop the center and has signed a long-term agreement to manage the center.
Dr. David Levin, recently retired Chairman of Radiology for Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and instigator of this project, stated, “Our department needs additional imaging capacity in a number of modalities, MR and CT especially. However like most academic institutions, our hospital is constrained from a capital and human resources standpoint. OIA was able to structure a project that really ‘hit the nail on the head’ in terms of our needs. OIA was able to minimize our capital outlay, structure the transaction to maximize reimbursement for outpatient imaging services and devote the people necessary to quickly bring this Center to reality. Our radiology department’s excellence in sub-specialty interpretation combined with OIA’s expertise in managing the delivery of outpatient services will make for a very successful center.” Dr. Vijay Rao, who recently s ucceeded Dr. Levin as Chairman at Jefferson, expressed equal enthusiasm for the project.
Frank Kyle, President and Chief Executive Officer of OIA, said, “We feel very fortunate to have partnered with such a prestigious academic institution. Thomas Jeffers on University’s reputation nationally is one of excellence, and this is especially true with respect to its radiologists. This Center is a direct response to academic radiology departments’ ability to successfully compete in the outpatient-imaging sector. We will be offering state-of-the-art outpatient imaging services under one roof, in a patient-friendly and referring-physician responsive environment. Our longer-term goal is to use the joint venture with TJU to develop multiple centers in the greater Philadelphia area. “
